Fast Facts You Should Know About Your Windscreen

While most people own a car, and have driven in the winter, there are quite a few tips that should be known (that aren’t already) in order to stay safe. During this time of year, and other seasons, you’ll want to keep your driving experience as safe as possible. Below, you’ll find an abundance of fast facts to keep you (and your car) safe all winter long.
- If you’ve never changed out your windscreen wipers, it’s best to do so now – and every 6 months for the lifespan of your vehicle. The aforementioned is due to the fact that the rubber can worsen when exposed to various weather conditions, causing them to wear down over time. When you don’t change them, you put your windscreen at risk for danger.
- Never drive with any type of cracks or chips in your windscreen – not only is this illegal, and you can receive a fine, but you’ll also become more susceptible to damage if something even taps your windscreen – including weather elements!
- Windscreen wipers can become damaged when using washing up liquid at your local car wash.
- Have a new windscreen in place? Great! Now, make sure your windows are up when you’re driving on the highway, or else the pressure from the fast movement may cause the frame and glass to come apart from one another – causing accidents and potential fatalities.
- Any chips that you may find should be taken care of immediately, as they can turn into much larger cracks, causing them to make your car more prone to damages and dangers to the driver. When you have harsh weather conditions (even simple rain can cause this) against chips or cracks in your windscreen, the integrity can become compromised and collapse inward. Other cracks may form, reducing the amount of visibility you have driving – something that’s naturally extremely dangerous. Did we mention that you can also fail your MOT test when you have cracks in your windscreen?
- Ever heard of screen wash? You don’t have to only use that in the winter, as it serves as a fantastic accessory for washing grime, dirt, and bugs from your windscreen area. When you reduce the amount of grime you have, you won’t have to worry about your car becoming impaired or more prone to damage.
- It’s no secret that repairing is cheaper than finding a replacement windscreen, and when the cracks are small enough, you can complete fix these and avoid larger cracks in the future.
- If you’re experiencing any type of stuttering or defects while driving, you should fix them before driving any more – you don’t know when there will be a spontaneous rain storm, or you find yourself needing to wipe away something on your windscreen. Wipers that aren’t in working condition are illegal to have on your car, as well, and when your washer bottles aren’t filled properly, you may also receive a fine!
At the end of the day, it comes down to how much safety you prefer, or how much you’re willing to push the law. We don’t suggest toying with either, and we think your safety (as well as following the law), is extremely important.
